Eurydice Opera Poster

For this project, the goal is to create a targeted poster promoting an event through the exploration of alternative ways to create typography. Balancing between verbal and non-verbal messaging will be expressed throughout the piece, along with evoking a form of emotion.

What is Eurydice?

This play is off the classic myth of Orpheus through the eyes of the heroine. Dying on her wedding day, Eurydice tumbles down the stairs, through the river of lost memories to the underworld where she reunites with her father, who she doesn’t recognize, and struggles to recall the memories of her lost life. Throughout the story, her father tries to help her relearn how to speak, read, write, and remember her life. This eventually leads to a story of a love triangle and the infamous test of Orpheus trying to save his love and ultimately failing.

Constructing the letters

Looking into expanding knowledge in different mediums, the direction of this project was aiming towards a medium that is transparent, like water, and able to expose different textures. With this in mind, plexiglass was the answer. After looking into different typographies and forms of “ripple effects”, these are the forms that were laser cut out of plexiglass.

Final Poster

This overall poster gives a bit of insight into major components in the play: water, stairs, the idea of the mortal world (light) vs. the underworld (dark), and the heroine and the name of the play Eurydice.
